Research Activities of the Department
Research work is promoted through conduction of various events like Regular Seminars, Research Scholars' Workshops, Conferences, etc. in addition to encouraging and accommodating faculty members to undertake various local, national, and international research projects. Faculty members are also involved in various Planning and Programme Evaluation Bodies. The department has frequent interaction with Public bodies regarding Preparation and implementation of Plans.

Socio Economic Survey
Every year the department organizes a socioeconomic survey for the 4th semester students which is also a part of our course curriculum. In 2013 students and teachers of the department took part in a survey at Birbhum. In 2010, students and teachers of the department undertook a comprehensive survey of Bisnupur town of the Bankura district. Students are provided a vast choice of areas to work upon. In 2011 students have visited Raina and Bhatar Block of Burdwan District.

Human Development Report
The Department has successfully prepared the District Human Development Report, 2008 for Burdwan. Preparation of District Human Development Reports of two other districts, Purulia and Hoogly also completed in 2010.
